Safe use of needles and syringes

Disposing of a syringe, pen needle or lancet after one use is not being wasteful, but rather helps to reduce the risk of tissue damage and formation of fatty lumps that affect insulin absorption. New needles are lubricated and glide gently through the skin, lowering discomfort and the risk of tissue damage.

⦁ Best advice is to use a new needle for every injection.

⦁ At a minimum needles should be changed every day.

⦁ Sharps containers are available free of charge from local pharmacies and can be returned there for disposal.
